A four day workshop was conducted from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon for teachers at Bharda from 22nd April to 25th April, 2019.
22nd April, 2019 – Mentoring
On 22nd April, 2019, Dr. Shadab Paloji and Mrs. Nishi Kumar conducted a session on ‘Mentoring’. More specifically the workshop was intended to address the question “What is the strategic role of Teachers as Mentors?”
The objective of the workshop were
1) To develop a ‘Mentoring program’ plan that would support students beyond the syllabus.
2) To share ideas and provide training about how to be a mentor.
3) To obtain information about the needs and challenges that students face and develop a support system.
The session began with a pre-workshop dialogue using their questions.
- What do we consider the key challenges?
- What instructive experiences have we had?
- What resources could one recommend?
The responses to these questions were summarized with the help of role play that helped each teacher identify with the teacher-student classroom challenges and find effective solution for the same.
The resource persons drew upon their experience and fostered values of personal commitment, a teacher-student partnership that are based on respectful listening mutually beneficial dialogue and action around shared understanding.
23rd April, 2019 – Gender Sensitization
The second session was ably conducted by Ms. Aanchal Jain on 23rd April, 2019, the topic being Gender Sensitization.
The session was very well organised. Ms Aachal encouraged the teachers to voice their views on the need for gender parity, providing a conducive environment for efficient and effective communication between staff and the students; such that a safe space is created to address their concerns openly and to break away from the gender bias.
The objective of the workshop was to sensitize the participants about gender roles, which are not natural but conditioned, to help teachers be aware about gender biases, helping them to screen textbook biased material and do corrective work, to understand many forms of gender inequalities and to foster a change at a micro level first in a male centric society.
Games were conducted followed by storytelling session, role play to foster sustainable healthy idea about men and female roles in society and that they are interchangeable.
24th April, 2019 – Creating safe spaces for differences and learning
On 24th April, 2019 Mrs. Alisha Sadikot and Ms. Tamara Rasquinha conducted a workshop on ‘Creating safe spaces for differences and learning’.
Differences due to culture, religion and physical appearance observed in the class room were discussed. Teachers put forth their views on tackling such issues through team work, celebration of festivals and activities which help students to tolerate and respect each other.
25th April,2019 – Leadership and Teamwork
The 4th session was conducted by Mrs. Agrima Bhasin on 25th April,2019 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.
It was an interactive experiential workshop dedicated to helping teachers. The resource person spoke about creating a unique experience that combines used web-aided materials, field trips, walks, role play.
She also spoke about employing the creative process to develop leadership and teamwork skills, as well as peer respect in the class room.
The four day workshop was aimed to engage and direct each person’s innate curiosity and imagination to foster a lifelong love for learning.
