‘So many of our elderly people are forgotten or disregarded ………
One day we all will be where they are. Is this how we will want to be treated!
Our elderly need to be honored and respected ‘
Realising old age is the second childhood and a time when one needs much love and care, 17 interactors of the Interact Club of Bharda New High School visited an old age home ‘Our Lady of Piety’ situated at Vijaywadi, Chira Bazar, Mumbai at 11.30 am along with their moderators Mrs Tasneem Gilitwala, Mrs. Shubhangi, and the Principal Mrs Vinita Lewis. There were in all 14 elderly people ranging from 60-80 years. The inmates of the home welcomed us with their sweet smiles and coordinated with us. The club through interactions discovered that the inmates were from abandoned families and a few of them were physically challenged.
To break through the monotonous life the past president – Habban Bhoira along with the vice president – Int. Imran Siddique conducted a game of housie to entertain the inmates. The interactors assisted the elderly people in playing the game. The game of housie was enjoyed by the inmates. Int Hozefa Hotelwala and Imran Siddique sang old melodious songs for them and made them sing along with them. What a delight it was to hear them singing so cheerfully! The interactors presented a small Diwali gift to each and every member. They also donated biscuits, wheat flour, and tea powder. The inmates were very friendly and their smiles touched our hearts. It conveyed the message that they were happy to have us there.
Mrs. Cynthia one of the inmates thanked all the interactors for their good work. Though only an hour was spent with the residents, the interactors learned the value of love and care.
